    The Norman Tower was erected in 1048 by Roberto D’Altavilla, known as Guiscardo, in the ruins of an ancient Roman fortification, of which there still remains a small tower and a staircase to the wall. Roberto D’’Altavilla christened name is Mark after the Evangelist St Mark - the town is named San Marco Argentano-Calabria Italy
