We were walking along the Kortum Trail, which connects a string of beaches up and down the Sonoma Coast, on a cloudy day. The sea seemed to melt into the moody sky and made the fields of grass and weeds almost glow in the cloudy light. I let my friend Emily pull ahead around one of the turns so I could capture the free spirit she carries with her day to day.
