The United States Navy DC plane that crashed in the black wasteland of Sólheimasandur during 1973 is a surreal sight. The wreck has become quite the tourist attraction despite its remote location. It does make for an excellent northern lights foreground however. I did some light painting of the undercarriage with a purple filtered torch (a sweet wrapper - none of these fancy gels required) and lit the interior with a second headlight. Taken at 3am.
