While camping at Caballo Lake State Park, NM, I noticed a patch of open ground (conveniently close to my camp site) which a number of Gambel's aka California Quail liked to pass through. I sat in the shade and waited, near ground level. Due to the intense sunshine, I was practically invisible to these adorable birds, making for some easy and close photo-ops.
