As a child, I used to stare out the plane window and watch live “videos” of the countryside. The earthen red landscape, its clay veins, twisted rugged crevices snaking out into the lake, its exposed striations of something pre-historic are just extraordinary. Exploration and adventure converge in the most basic way—through the eyes of a child, now adult, peering out from a plane. ( We were flying over northwestern AZ when this was taken so this is somewhere north of the Grand Canyon. )
