Exploring Migration
In winter birds flock to the backyard to take advantage of the feeder. Not only was it a treat to see waxwings, it was fun to see the unique behavior of eating the crab apple berries. It was so cold, you could see the steam of their breath as they sampled the fruit. I only saw them that day, so they must have been migrating, but I loved seeing the colors on their tail, wings, and bandit mask. I imagined them coming to steal our food, then go on their way: "Just passin' through ma'am."
