Papilio palinurus, the emerald swallowtail, emerald peacock or green-banded peacock, is a butterfly of the genus Papilio belonging to the Papilionidae family. It is native to Southeast Asia, but is regularly kept in butterfly houses around the world. Papilio meaning “butterfly” and palinurus referring to the captain in Virgil’s Aeneid. Considering the bright green of the butterfly’s wings that immediately draw your attention to whichever way it is going, this assumption is quite novel.
