The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the hardest fought battles between the United States and Japan during WWII. The Marine Corps War Memorial recognizes the sacrifices made by the soldiers. We were fortunate enough to capture a super moon backlighting the American flag. This picture holds a special place in my heart because it was taken on my first travel assignment shortly after learning my dad, who spent most of his military time in Japan, was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.
