The Augustinian Friary
The Augustinian Friary, also known locally as The Monastery, and up until recently the home of Cinq Ports Pottery, was built in 1379 and was originally the chapel for the Austin Friars of Rye. Their lands and buildings, including the chapel were confiscated by the crown during the reformation and later sold off. It has since functioned as a theatre, malthouse, barracks, butter and cheese warehouse, wool store, hospital and pottery. Currently an upmarket antique warehouse.
