    Reported by:

The town of Hilo, Hawaii is east facing, meaning high surf is prevalent throughout the year. However during the recent storm systems that have swept over the islands, it brought with it high surf. Surf that was strong and high enough to overcome a distant sea wall. The high surf sometimes caused splash-ups of over 30 feet in height. This particular event caused the closure of a popular roadway known as Bayfront Road where ocean debris along with large rocks were swept onto the road.
