This is the South Haven lighthouse in Michigan after the sunset. The lighthouse is located on a pier extending into lake Michigan. The elevated platform is for lighthouse keepers to use to get to the lighthouse when the waves in lake Michigan are too big and washing over the pier. Even in this photo the pier is uneven due to ice from the waves washing over the pier and freezing.
