Vellayi Gopuram - Srirangam temple
Srirangam Renganatha Swamy temple is the world's largest functioning temple with 120 acres of built area and one of the oldest temples of India, estimated to be 2000 years old. Of all 21 towers, this 2hite tower is historically significant, named after a dancer Vellayi, who, during Muslim invasion, took the commander of the forces to the top and pushed him down, also jumped to her death, to mark her sacrifice, the tower was named after Vellayi, meaning white, and painted white ever since.
