"Winnetou" by Karl May was my childhood favorite series of novels. Reading about Native Americans transported me into different time and place. My imagination was running wild through the pages and I was dreaming to be part of these captivating stories. I wanted to be an Apache... Years later Winnetou was forgotten until I heard about the legend of Starved Rock. I had to visit that place and walk the paths that Ottawa and Illinois tribes once walked centuries ago.
