This temple of Badrinarayana was established by Sri Adi Shankara. Adi Shankaracharya founded this temple after identifying a stone idol of Badrinarayana that had fallen into the Alakananda river. The Idol is brought back from the River by Adi Shankaracharya to the place where river Alakananda exists as a hot spring in the Himalayas at 10830ft above sea level.
