Reaching Hands
The main building of the White Temple in Chiang Rai, Thailand, is reached by crossing a bridge over a small lake. In front of the bridge there’s an area with hundreds of reaching hands symbolizing desire, human suffering and hell. The bridge is called “the cycle of rebirth” and symbolizes the way to happiness by overcoming worldly things as temptations, greed and desire.
Black and white filter makes this image even more dramatic, highlighting hands shape and shadows.
Simona, the texture and repetitive shapes of the hands sucks me right in! The layers and light give us the sense of scale of how many people these hands all belong to. Well done!
