the 2nd of June is the Italian "Festa della Repubblica" (Republic Day). On june the 2nd1946 italian people were called to the polls to decide on the form of government. It was the first poll held by universal suffrage in Italy. To commemorate it, a grand military parade is held in central Rome and Quirinale Palace, the official residence of the President of the Republic of Italy, opens its gardens to the public.
