Weathering the Storms
The Budir Black Church in Iceland has its unique facade for a very practical reason - to weather the harsh Icelandic storms. The entire exterior is covered it pitch, similar to what is used on the hull of ships. This substance not only gives the church its dark color, but also protects it from cold, rain, snow, and heavy winds. It also makes it a picture perfect subject for photography!
