I have a new goal of doing one hike per week on average. Last week's hike was in Lassen Volcanic National Park in Northern California. This is a birds-eye view of the Painted Dunes from the top of the Cinder Cone at park. While this looks like a painting, the dunes are in fact pumice fields that formed from volcanic ash falling on a bed of hot lava flows and oxidizing in this colorful manner.
