Abby sits with her birth and adoptive families. She has a genetic disease, MMA, and is waiting for a liver transplant. She was born in America while her Chinese birth parents were obtaining their doctorates in chemistry. They didn’t have the medical capability to care for Abby at their home in Beijing. Abby's only chance at life was adoption. Catherine and Dave adopted Abby, knowing she had complex medical needs. She is their daughter. Abby is loved deeply and selflessly by everyone here.

    Story 2

This portrait is a fine example to me of how the world should work. People helping one another out, offering love and care and a future for this little baby girl. It goes well beyond the idea of this assignment and speaks instead of the heart.
