White-necked jacobin hummingbird
This beautiful white-necked jacobin landed just in front of our house door. The light and background were just perfect for the shot. Hummingbirds have a very long and grooved like the shape of a "W" tongues. On the tip of the tongue there are brushy hairs that help lap up nectar from a flower. They can lap up at a rate of about thirteen (13!) licks per second. Impressive little creatures!
