We set out in the morning with great clear weather to see mount Merapi near Yogyakarta. After two hours of driving because the city traffic, we arrived at the foot of the volcano only to find it completely hidden by clouds. Another three hours of waiting and driving to viewpoint followed untill we gave up hope and drove back to town. Among rice fields and palm trees a saw a silhouette emerge from the clouds in my side mirror. Finally Merapi showed itself among a great landscape and made our day.
