    Edit Photo Details The heart of a Baltistan home.   #kitchen #baltistan #traditional_architecture #boiling_water #wooden_home #turtuk_ladakh
In the 400 year old kitchen of his family’s home, this grandfather brings a pot of water to the boil in the traditional way. He encourages the fire using his animal skin fan. The room is very small and the only ventilation are three tiny wooden windows. Three generations live in this home in the remote village of Turtuk in Ladakh, India on the border with Pakistan. This village lies in the region of Baltistan and was, in fact Pakistan until the war in 1971. Opened to tourists recently in 2010.
