An adult African leopard tortoise scampers into a field of tall grasses, mere feet from the heavily traveled roads of Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. The African leopard tortoise is one of the country's "little five" (a play on the notorious "big five") and gets its name from the spotted shell's resemblance to that of the cream and umber fur coating of the African leopard.
