We rented bikes to visit the countryside around Guilin in China. Half way our trip we got caught in a thunderstorm and were bound to be soaking if this older couple had not offered us a place on their veranda. They had little English and they didn’t stop their daily hard work, now to clean the peanut harvest but still offered us all they had from food and even the odd smile. When the skies cleared and we were leaving they held my hand as if we were family, and that is exactly how we felt.
