    Reported by:

In the 1960s the USA National Cancer Institute screened 35,000 native plants. The bark of the Pacific Yew tree, here on the left, went on to provide what is now one of the most highly prescribed chemotherapy drugs for cancer - Taxol, a chemical extracted from the bark. Here a mature yew toughs it out in close competition with a Western Red Cedar renowned for its light aromatic wood used in saunas.
