I participate in an annual Dabchick count on Anzac Day. Dabchick are from the Grebe family. In the past there have been up to 100 or more on the dune lakes on South Head Peninsula. This year we counted 33 grebe. Loss of habitat is an important feature of their decline in our area. The species is considered threatened. Nationally there are approximately 2000 individuals.
