It is a real treat to see a Mandarin duck in S. California. It was my first sight of this colorful bird. I hope they become residents and multiply among the wood ducks in the lake. The mandarin duck (Aix Galericulata) is a perching duck species found in East Asia and it considered sacred by the ancient Greeks.
