When I joined another couple who have decided to rebuild their lives inside the lava zone accessible only via helicopter, I saw this property right next door. Theirs remains standing while this one was destroyed. In this case not by direct contact with lava but by brush fires caused by nearby lava channel overspill setting fire to tinder dry and intoxicated vegetation affected by three months of heat and chemical exposure from the eruption. Vegetation is recovering now the lava has stopped.
