This portrait was taken at a wildlife sanctuary in Costa Rica that specializes in treating and then releasing injured sloths, where I have been working this summer. The sanctuary receives many sloths that have been run over and electrocuted and unfortunately, for Wendy experienced both. Her road to recovery is a long one and the sanctuary tries to limit human exposure, so I could only take the image just before feeding time, where she excitedly wakes up from snoozing in her hammock to eat.
