This was taken around 6:30 am on a foggy morning in Shenandoah National Park. I'd hiked out to Big Meadows hoping for some sunrise photos, but instead ended up quietly watching a herd of whitetail deer sleeping in the meadow from about 10 feet away. After watching this particular buck for about 20 minutes, he finally raised his head looking me straight in the eyes, granting me permission to shoot his portrait.
