Abstract view of the Thomson River upstream from the road bridge leading to the old gold mining town of Walhalla in Victoria, Australia. Gold was discovered in the area and Walhalla was founded in 1862. The alluvial deposits were quickly exhausted and underground mining commenced. Its population peaked at about 4000 residents. The railway line reached Walhalla in 1910 and the last major mine closed in 1914. Today its permanent population is about 20. . . . .Canon EF-S 15 -85mm f3.5 -5.6 IS USM
