    Reported by:

Years of fire suppression in nearby Kootenay National Park have decreased available habitat for native bighorn sheep. With the increase in tree growth, sheep no longer have a clear line of sight to watch for predators. The sheeps' solution has been for the herd of 140+ to move seasonally into the small town of Radium Hot Springs, providing a unique opportunity to experience the juxtaposition of these large, powerful animals against an urban background.
