Took this picture at Nilgunge, a small village near Barasa, West Bengal. In this picture, jute sticks are organized in bundles to dry out at the sun and a woman is returning home with a bundle of jute sticks. Jute plants take nearly 3 months to grow properly. After cutting them they kept immersed in water for retting process, where the inner stem and outer stem get separated as jute stick and fiber respectively. In rural areas, jute stick is hugely used as firewood.
