Poza Honda Reservoir - Portoviejo Ecuador - Crouched beneath a guava tree, I watched hundreds of egrets, snail kites and cormorants in the reservoir and water hyacinths below. One Snail Kite soared skyward, landed to my right.then stared as if to say, "Ha! You think we don't know you're here?" I am quite protective of this protected dry forest; the laws are not enforced, so deforestation creeps closer to this 'pocket of green.' Surely the birds know that I'm their friend?
