Australasian Grebe.
The Australasian Grebe (Tachybaptus novaehollandiae novaehollandiae) is a small bird which prefers freshwater to brackish or salt. It is found throughout Australia wherever there is enough water to serve its needs. It grows to a length of around 26 cm. Unlike other small Grebes, this species will dive if threatened, rather than fly. Their main food source is fish. Photographed at Lake Gwellup, about 12 km. North of Perth in Western Australia.
