Religious India - Circle of Faith
TONSURING is a traditional practice in India in which heads are shaven completely and hair is offered to the deities in temples or at holy places. It is believed that by doing so, one gets rid off one’s vanity and ego before surrendering to the almighty. On my trip to the banks of river Ganges in West Bengal, India, during the day after “Makar Sankranti" (a holy transition of time on Mid-January every year), I witnessed the interesting mass prayer of this community from Motihari district, Bihar.
