Finding comunity
This is a photograph taken of my roommates helping one of our roommates unbraid her hair. After i came to Canada in 2005 at the age of 7, i was swept into the western gaze where i was forced to hate my skin and my hair because of society's expectations. It took a long time to find a community where we not only take care of each other from the outside, but also from the roots. Black hair at its natural state has been subject to discrimination for years and it's finally about time that we can be.
