Orangutan BW Portrait
Male orangutan strikes a poise displaying almost human qualities. Orangutans are great apes who share 97% DNA in common with humans. They are endangered due to their rainforest habitats disappearing at an alarming rate due to deforestation and clearing of the land for pulp paper and palm oil plantations, with the remaining forest degraded by drought and forest fires. This particular great ape was photographed at the Houston Zoo.
