In the wild, guinea pigs are furtive creatures who are active at dawn and dusk. They seek sheltered places with overhanging rocks and foliage to avoid predation from birds and do not enjoy exposure to the open sky. As indoor pets, they are much the same and feel especially secure at lunchtime provided they have their tunnel and basket house escape routes.
