    Reported by:

A male Allan's Hummingbird feeds from a Bird of Paradise in Venice Beach, California. Allen's Hummingbirds (Selasphorus sasin) historically nested in coastal California and wintered in Mexico; but more and more of them are remaining in California year-round or are traveling to the eastern United States for the winter. The male has a throat that ranges in color from orange-red to yellow-orange, a back that is bright green, a rump that is rufous and its tail feather tipped in black.
