The red currant (redcurrant) is a member of the genus Ribes in the gooseberry family. It is native across western Europe and is a culinary delight as condiments, jam, puddings, syrup, and desserts. For me this berry is exotic, and I watched in grow to the ripened state for several months in the small village of Krska Vas, Slovenia. It reminds me of the many delights of Nature and the Plant Kingdom.
