Although the "Many-Zoned Polypore" or "Turkeytail Fungus" is not technically a plant it does play a significant role in the plant kingdom thru nutrient cycling and carbon dioxide production - both necessary in a forest ecosystem. It grows mainly on dead hardwood, including stumps and standing dead trees as well as fallen branches and can be as pretty as the Summer flowerbeds.
