Edit Photo Details THE MAGIC OF MATERA (THE SASSI)   #sassi #matera #basilicata
When I have time, I often go to Matera, a few kilometers far from Bari, my town. This is Matera ancient town, the "Sassi", where, in some way, I feel at home. The Sassi originated in a prehistoric troglodyte settlement. They are habitations dug into the calcareous rock itself, which is characteristic of Basilicata and Apulia. Many of them are really little more than caverns, and in some parts of the Sassi a street lies on top of another group of dwellings.
