Outside Twisp, Washington, USA, a rain soaked bald eagle appears to be re-thinking how to hunt in this year-old burn. Fire has always been part of the cycle of renewal in forests, but in the Western US, as decades-long fire suppression meets climate change, "Fire" has become its own long, ferocious season. When vegetation is destroyed, subsequent mud slides (even small ones) can sully creeks and rivers, impacting salmon runs that are part of food chains from eagles' to orcas'.
