It is an yearly ritual and festival named "Velvel" organized by the South Indian Community in the Hooghly district, West Bengal, India. 20,000 - 30,000 peoples gathered here every year to celebrate this festival. Many people come from distant surrounded areas to celebrate this festival. The devotees culminate the worship by piercing different parts of the body with metal hooks and needles.The hooks are attached to long ropes which drag the deity Vel Vel in small carriages.
