This is one of my favorite flowers, beautiful and resilient, growing in a garden in a desert area. San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta, Chile, is suffering from a problem that is becoming more and more usual: not enough water. The small town is so appealing, specially to youngsters, that they are rationing the liquid by cutting the distribution at night, as we were told by the owner of our hotel.
