Eastern Washington has many secrets in its desert landscape, from cliffs in the scablands to abandoned nuclear sites, but the sunsets are unparalleled in their beauty. Fiery reds and oranges often light up the sky in fantastic displays throughout the seasonal burning season, fueled by ash and smoke and dust. This shot was captured on my way home, after years away. A centering piece of my childhood, it was like the sunset was welcoming me home, reminding me what I'd missed.
