    Goldfinch are not bright gold “all” year. They molt in the Fall to replace their worn, tattered feathers. The appearance of males changes drastically at this time. The brilliant yellow body feathers are replaced by dull brownish plumes. However now that Spring is here, a set of fresh, new feathers appear and you can see this male's bright yellow starting to show again.
