Groynes, or breakwaters, are found around the coast of Britain, and are there to help protect the beaches from the violence of the sea caused by frequently wild weather and to prevent the sand being washed away. High winds and rough seas can plague the coasts, especially in the winter time, and much damage can be caused. In some places however, it is a losing battle. This is Borth in south Wales at low tide.
