The Old School in leiden is a café, exhibition space, studio space and meeting rooms all rolled into one in a former school building from 1929. When I went inside to order refreshments I saw the light fall on the guest book in a way that was reminiscent of a clairobscur painting. It seemed fitting as the current exhibition was of works created by children in celebration of Rembrandt year. The great painter was born here in Leiden, the son of a miller.
